A Mini Skin Care Revolution

An Awesome Masterclass Announcement

In case you did not know - I used to be a makeup artist around 2011-2015. Yes, fully trained - doing bridals as well as classes! It was only after I started Soul Sisters Pakistan that I let that passion go and started to dedicate all my time to our community.

A client review from back in the day :D

One of the things I have always cared about, even as a make-up artist - is skin. Healthy skin can change the way you feel about yourself and also the way your makeup looks. It is rooted in more than just expensive skincare products: it has a lot to do with your gut, requires consistent effort with how you treat your skin and what you use for it.

Having said that, I have been very much at the forefront of calling out whitening trends in South Asian culture. If you have followed me long enough you must have seen some of my anti-fairness creams karate (rather, Kabaddi) moves online. This culture has made women spend millions on substandard skin-polish treatments, whitening injections and dangerous creams. All because our society uses colour to define beauty. I am also not a very big fan of “facials” done in salons in Pakistan which are essentially just rubbing a bunch of creams, scrubs and masks on your face.

An snippet from an interview I did on colorism

In my experience, a good “facial” routine needs to be done by you, every night - according to your skin type and needs. Not just once in three months. I also think everyone should stay away from treatments that change the colour of your skin. And most importantly, with so many of us following boycott movements around the world, I have noticed an increasing number of queries asking for alternatives to products that we can no longer use.

That is why this month on our platform, we are introducing a Skin Care 101 Masterclass in collaboration with a certified Aesthetician based out of Vancouver, Canada.

Aymen Shah, whose certifications and experience you can read about on the event page, will be taking us step by step through the following:

  1. Understanding your Skin type and discovering common Skin Issues

  2. Decoding Skin Care Ingredients so you can make informed decisions

  3. Building a Skin Care Routine for yourself

  4. Fixing Embarrassing Beauty Problems e.g. Strawberry Skin

  5. Learning about Under-rated and Over-rated Skin Practices

The point of organizing this is to firstly empower YOU as a consumer to building a strong routine without EVER falling prey to marketing gimmicks as well as removing dependency on specific brands. If you can understand key issues and read ingredients of skincare products - you will know when someone is selling you choona.

This is also why we are NOT collaborating with any brands, sponsors or companies in this masterclass to keep it transparent and prioritize YOU.

Secondly, with wedding season in desi communities around the corner, whether you’re a bride or an attendee - working on your skin from now will ensure you have the perfect canvas for your looks in December and January!

This class is meant for all ages, open globally - whether you want to watch with your teenager or your nani. All of us need to learn about our skin and keeping it healthy!
